For many toy manufacturers, the primary goal today is to reduce carbon emissions while providing safe, inclusive products for children. This report looks at how CMFs keep pace with regulations and meet the needs of investors, children and their parents.
01 recycled plastic
Toy manufacturers are reducing their reliance on fossil-based plastics by introducing recyclable, biodegradable plant-based resins into mass production.
Mattel has committed to reducing plastic in packaging and products by 25% by 2030 and using 100% recyclable, recyclable materials or bio-based plastics. The company’s Mega Bloks Green Town toys are made from Sabic’s Trucircle resin, which Mattel says is the first toy line to be certified “carbon neutral” for mass retail. Mattel’s “Barbie Loves the Ocean” line of dolls is made in part from plastic recycled from the ocean. Its Playback program is also committed to recycling old items.
At the same time, LEGO is also moving ahead with its commitment to create prototype bricks made from recycled plastic (PET). LEGO’s suppliers provide materials that meet the quality requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority. In addition, Danish brand Dantoy’s colorful playhouse kitchen sets are also made from recycled plastic.

02 practical paper
Paper and card are preferred alternatives to plastic for decorations and toys where durability is not required.
Greener materials are beginning to replace plastic small toys. British retailer Waitrose has banned low-quality plastic toys from children’s magazines. McDonald’s plans to replace Happy Meal giveaways globally with toys made from recycled or plant-derived materials by the end of 2025.
MGA promises that by the fall of 2022, 65% of the spherical shells of LOL Surprise! toys will be made of natural materials such as bamboo, wood, sugar cane and paper. The brand also launched the Earth Love version on Earth Day, and the packaging changed to paper balls and paper packaging.
Cardboard is also great for making larger toys like Wendy’s House and a pirate ship. They help children get creative and can be disposed of as household waste when needed for recycling.
Decorations such as bunting and crib paper art pendants also work well in this direction.
action strategy
When choosing materials for toys and accessories, consider the product’s life expectancy and ease of handling.

03 Flexible wood
Renewable and non-toxic, wood can be integrated into every room of the home, creating a huge buzz in the market.
In addition to producing a large number of children’s wooden toys and tools, ALDI also launched an affordable solid wood picnic table. This toy table can be used in both water and sand. Products with dual functions or open gameplay are attractive.
B-Corp certified Lovevery’s building block sets are made from FSC certified renewable wood. The surface of the toy has been treated with non-toxic treatment. The color of the toy is playful and interesting, and it is very delicate. Lovevery also provides subscription tool kits for different age groups to help parents meet their children’s learning needs. Parents know that Lovevery’s production materials are safe, reliable and can be trusted. Raduga Grez takes inspiration from art and nature to launch a collection of toys that satisfy both adults and children. The toy uses a water-based paint that preserves the grain and texture of the wood.
action strategy
Toys don’t have to be limited to children’s rooms, consider them to enrich the home environment. Using color combinations from nature and the world of art, the products are pleasing to the eye in a variety of environments.
